See Photo Gallery of event“Acceptable in Da 80’s” was a charity night held in aid of the LauraLynn Children’s Hospice Foundation.

Big hair, shoulder pads and faded denim were all the rage on March 11th 2010 in Crawdaddy Harcourt Street with bands and solo artists battling it out in an 80’s style talent contest performing everything from Michael Jackson to Blondie.

The night was a star studded affair with Spin 103.8 D.J Shona Ryan appearing as M.C. and Irish Rock Legend Barry Devlin of Horslips acting as a special guest judge. They had their work cut out from choosing a winner with such a high level of talent.

The show opened with ‘Charity Case’ performing the Michael Jackson Classic ‘Billie Jean’. ‘Local Access Only’ blasted the audience away with a rendition of ‘Danger zone’ complete with Top Gun style aviators and dog tags.

An acoustic rendition of that pop classic ‘Straight Up’ by Amelia Moloney Gleeson was a great introduction for the rest of the solo acts with great dedications to Blondie, Bob Dylan and the Police, to name but a few.

Peakin Trippers

Cliona and David of the Event Management Class took to stage after all the acts to announce the winners of the fantastic raffle prizes that were on offer. Greenday Tickets and Hampton Hotel Gift Vouchers were among some of the top prizes on offer.

Next to take to the stage were Dublin Rock Group the ‘Peakin’ Trippers’ who owned the stage performing a high energy 45 minute set. Shona Ryan took to the stage with the special guest judges Barry Devlin, Luan Parle, D.J. Killian Martin and Record Producer Dav Nagle to announce the winners of the battle of the bands contest.

Third place of €100 went to solo act Nicky Taylor for his cover of Bob Dylan’s Blind Willie McTell, Second place of €100 and a 4 hour recording session went to Terry Carroll for his fantastic mash-up of U2 and Journey.

Local Access Only

The big winners of the night, winning a 6 hour recording session and a cheque for €200, were the band Local Access Only.

D.J Killian Martin took the stage round off the night with some 80’s Cheesy Pop Hits. The night was a great success, with the Event Management Class delighted to announce a total of €4,064.62 being raised for the LauraLynn Children’s Hospice Foundation.
