Student Feedback on International Internships Very Positive
The feedback from the 10 Stillorgan College students who participated on international internships over the summer has been extremely positive and has been a fantastic addition to their studies and provides them with invaluable experience for the jobs market.
These internships are an exciting new development that students in Stillorgan College can avail of. The internships are funded by the European Commission under the Erasmus+ programme and all transport, accommodation and living costs are covered.
This year Stillorgan College students availed of internships in Exeter, London and Malta. The work that the students were involved in was very varied. For example, one of the art students worked in two different art galleries in London and has also been involved in competition for a new scupture in Archbishop's Park, Lambeth.
One of the Journalism students has been working on a digital magazine in London for the past 10 weeks and she has had some of her published on this magazine. The experience gained on this internship will prove invaluable prior to her starting her degree course in DCU later this month. Another student from the Multimedia course has spent most of the summer working in a digital marketing and advertising company in Malta. The benefits of this experience can be encapsulated by this feedback from the student:
"It really gave me the confidence in my own abilities. At the start, the creative director gave me a lot of revisions to do on any work I presented him, but these revisions became less and less as I continuously learned from each revision I went through. I got a good feel for working in an agency including team work, organisation and time management. I have left the programme feeling more confident in my own work, more employable and also independent."
Likewise, an Art student who undertook an internship in Exeter says: "Personally it helped me grow massively by being in a new country and business, giving me the chance to advance independently and work on adapting to new situations. Professionally it thought me a lot about
business startups and inspired me to start thinking about starting my own business as well as giving my CV a huge professional boost."
This internship programme is run in partnership with IEP and the new students coming to Stillorgan this September will also have the opportunity to avail of these internships. As well as London, Exeter and Malta, internships are also available in Croatia and Bordeaux, France. More details about this exciting programme are available here.
